Beth Boone is the Artistic & Executive Director of Miami Light Project. With a distinguished 35-year career in the arts and culture sector, she has established herself as a transformative leader with extensive expertise in programming, fundraising, organizational development, and public advocacy.
Throughout her 26-year tenure at Miami Light Project, Beth has been instrumental in shaping Miami’s cultural landscape by championing contemporary performing artists. Her commitment to nurturing emerging talent is perhaps best captured by playwright and Oscar-winning screenwriter Tarell McCraney, who credits Beth with providing critical support to South Florida artists: “Beth’s generosity and keen eye for emerging talent helped develop my voice as an artist. She provided sustainable mentors by creating a platform for professional cutting-edge artists.”
Beth has developed groundbreaking programs that have significantly expanded opportunities for artists in Miami, across the US, and around the world. Notable programs include Here & Now: A commissioning and presenting program exclusively dedicated to Miami-based artists, providing them with critical platforms for creative expression. Bringing monumental artists including Nina Simone, Philip Glass, Sonny Rollins, and Laurie Anderson to Miami, expanding the city’s artistic horizons. Launching unprecedented cultural exchanges with Cuba thus demonstrating remarkable leadership by challenging local ordinances to facilitate historic international artistic collaborations; Developing The Light Box at Goldman Warehouse, a multidisciplinary performance space that was a cornerstone of Miami’s Wynwood Arts District, and provided a home for emerging cultural organizations including Teo Castellanos D-Projects, Rosie Herrera Dance Theater and Nu Deco Ensemble.
Beth’s academic and professional journey reflects her deep commitment to the arts: She holds a B.A. in Fine Arts from the College of Charleston, MFA in Theater Arts from Brandeis University; She was a founding member two Off-Broadway theater companies in New York City and worked for six years at the AT&T Foundation, coordinating nationally recognized arts initiatives.
Her expertise extends to national and international platforms, where she has served as a panelist, speaker, and evaluator for prestigious organizations including the National Dance Project, Ford Foundation, Knight Foundation, the Goethe-Institut and Villa Albertine of the French Cultural Services. Dedicated to fostering artistic innovation and supporting the next generation of artists, Beth Boone continues to be a transformative force in the cultural landscape, bridging communities, nurturing talent, and expanding the boundaries of artistic expression. Her extraordinary contributions have been widely acknowledged: Best Promoter of Cultural Diversity (Miami New Times) 40 to Watch in the Arts (Miami Herald) Howard Kleinberg Award for Contributions to Art & Culture; In 2024, Beth was honored with the United States Artists Beresford Prize in recognition of her contributions to the field.
