“Farhanaz Kermalli uses data and community insights to inspire more generosity and civic engagement across Greater Miami. As Director of Knowledge Leadership, her work expands knowledge sharing, including through reports and digital tools, and deepens how learning and inclusive design shape The Miami Foundation’s everyday work.
Before joining the Foundation, Farhanaz served as the Country Director in South Sudan for two international nonprofits, Internews Network and IREX, where she led democratic governance programs and launched a $12 million USAID-funded independent media initiative from the ground up. She previously served as a senior policy analyst at the nonpartisan U.S. Government Accountability Office, informing federal legislation and programs on international development, security, and trade. She began her career in strategic communications and public relations across the nonprofit and private sectors.
Farhanaz holds a degree in journalism and international studies from Northwestern University and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Southern California. A native Californian now proud to call Miami home, her immigrant and diaspora background fuels her passion for creating more equitable access to information in her community. She volunteers as an ESL instructor, loves exploring the city’s rich culinary and cultural life and trying new recipes, and is always adding to her list of countries to visit.”
