This is a year where leadership will be front and center.<\/p>\n

This will be true for us here at The Miami Foundation, but frankly, it will be true everywhere we look. It\u2019s an election year, a time of great divisiveness, and our community continues to experience a rapid growth spurt while dealing with issues of affordability and resilience. These types of challenges require leadership that unifies and engages our community in serious solutions.<\/p>\n

So what does brave, unifying leadership look like in 2024?<\/h2>\n

This will be the essential question of our year at The Miami Foundation. We\u2019ll be answering it all year long through an increased focus in leadership development programs, civic leadership efforts, and even knowledge leadership, where we leverage the data our Foundation harvests to steer community solutions. And most importantly, we\u2019ll be holding a high bar for our own leadership. Read on below to learn about our core leadership priorities for the year ahead, and know that in 2024, your leadership will be more valuable than ever. President & CEO<\/p>\n

The Miami Foundation<\/p>\n

1. Values-based Leadership<\/h3>\n

\"Leadership,<\/p>\n

We believe great leadership starts with clarity of values. How we treat others, and how we show up in the world can be even more important than the money we give out and the programs we run. At The Foundation, we re-set our team values every year and embed them into every facet of our work. If you\u2019re curious about what our team values are this year, you can peek at them here<\/a> \u2013 but more importantly, we encourage our network to take the time to start the year grounded in what you value.<\/p>\n

2. Civic Leadership<\/h3>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

This will be a year where we all can choose who we want to represent us. While the presidential election may capture the most attention, we see abysmally low voter turnout for local elections\u2026 and our local leaders arguably have the most impact on our everyday quality of life. At The Foundation, we\u2019ll be reawakening \u201cOur Miami: The People\u2019s Forums\u201d<\/a> to help locals learn about the candidates running for office and to demystify our local election process. Local civic engagement starts with local knowledge, which is why we’re also proud to continue building Press Forward<\/a>, which is focused on strengthening local news ecosystems.<\/p>\n

3. Leadership Development<\/h3>\n

\"Miami<\/p>\n

Our Foundation has been investing in building a generation of outstanding future leaders for Miami for 25 years. This year we\u2019ll be kicking off applications for our next Miami Fellows cohort<\/a> and hosting our 25th anniversary Alumni Summit \u2013 to catalyze the power of our incredible alumni.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll also be launching a new leadership program, the Saltwater Fellowship\u2026but you\u2019ll have to wait until the end of February to hear about that one. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

4. Knowledge Leadership<\/h3>\n

\"State<\/p>\n

Each year, we gain insights from over 1,000 nonprofits about their visions, goals, and needs through grant programs, office hours, site visits, and, of course, Give Miami Day. In 2024, we will be obsessed with distilling insights and guiding our community toward powerful collaborations and solutions by distilling our data and producing reports and knowledge resources. Our first report of 2024 will come out at our 9th annual State of Black Philanthropy event in February. Our Give Miami Day and education ecosystem reports will come shortly thereafter.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, be sure to review some of the reports and knowledge resources that we have already produced, including our Miami Connected report<\/a>, our 2023 State of Black Philanthropy report<\/a>, and our artlook Map<\/a>.<\/p>\n

5. Our Leadership<\/h3>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

Miami is one of the most diverse regions in the world. To lead thoughtfully, we need to make sure that we have bold voices representing all parts of our community involved and engaged deeply in our work at The Foundation. We\u2019re thrilled to introduce our new trustees \u2013 Aaron Gordon, Pilar Guzm\u00e1n, Grace Mead, Rodrick Miller, and Nitin Motwani. We also want to share who is stepping up into executive leadership on our Board of Trustees<\/a>, as well as who will be steering our thinking on our Community Advisory Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This group of cross-sector leaders bring varied perspectives to the table, but they share a few core commonalities \u2013 They\u2019re deeply committed to strengthening Miami. They care about equity and opportunity for all people who call this place home. They work brilliantly with people across lines of difference, and they lead with tremendous integrity, bravery, and heart.<\/p>\n

6. Your Leadership<\/h3>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

Miami is stronger when everyone who lives here is engaged in the community. A major priority for our Foundation over the next three years is connection \u2013 helping our entire community get involved. We want to know you better to understand the issue areas you care about and to help build bridges for people to work together toward bolder solutions and bigger impact than any of us could achieve alone.<\/p>\n
